WeChat emerges as key mobile ecommerce platform

The Chinese electronics giant Haier has said it wants to reach 1 million vendors on WeChat in the next 12 months.

WeChat is the most popular social messaging app in China, with a staggering 500 million users.

Anyone can open a Haier store on WeChat, with sellers earning a 2% commission on all sales plus discounts if they purchase a Haier product for themselves.

Haier takes care of inventory and delivery, with items being shipped from the nearest warehouse using the company’s own Alibaba-backed logistics network when a customer places an order.

There are currently 100,000 Haier vendors on WeChat, the same number as rival Suning and more than its other rival Gome.

Haier has 10,000 physical stores in cities across China, and hopes that boosting its mobile ecommerce presence will help to expand its reach further.

Social media blamed for bull run death

And finally, social media has been blamed for the death of a man who was gored during a bull run in Spain.

The unnamed 32-year-old male had allegedly been filming the bull run on his mobile phone when he was killed, with his “desperation” to be famous on social media being touted as the reason he was not paying enough attention to the animal.

The mayor of the town where he was killed commented on his death, saying: “The young man was in the path of a bull run which he was filming with his mobile phone. Bulls are dangerous animals and when there are a lot of people, some don’t pay attention.”
