McAfee developed a strong base in China by partnering with China Unicom and Baidu. McAfee offers virus protection, internet security software, personal computer updates, hacker protection and anti-virus downloads. China Unicom (China United Telecommunications Corporation) which is the second largest mobile phone operation in China is a state-owned telecommunication company. China Unicom will provide their users McAfee’s security solutions on a subscription basis. Baidu is China’s leading search engine and a Baidu.com online store will offer McAfee’s anti-virus software for download.
China is a very significant market for us, and the reasons for that are kind of obvious,” said Lawrence Wee, McAfee’s president of Asia-Pacific at a press conference in Beijing. “The country’s expanding Internet market and the widespread adoption of mobile devices makes China an important market.”
