You don’t hear much news about the Portuguese internet arena. But of course they’re not just busy putting out fires. Here’s a brief news insight out of Portugal. During the first quarter this year, broadband connections reached 9.2% in comparison to last year during the same quarter, when broadband penetration rate was 5.5%. That brings Portugal up to 966,000 broadband internet users. “In year-on-year terms there was 68 per cent growth of broadband customers.”
Still, despite growth, the numbers are meager. For example, Portugal’s 60% internet penetration in schools, leaves them in second to last place behind the other European players. So there is more than plenty of room for improvement.
