The quarterly report from the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) shows there are now 29m Internet users in Russia. Over the past 4 years this has increased by 150%: from 10% to 25% of the total population.
Included in this figure are those users who visit the internet at least once within 6 months. The total number of users who visit the internet daily is now 19.6m, or 2/3 of the total number of users in Russia
This increase is due to the higher earning sectors of Russian society, where each member of the family has more than four thousand rubles per month. Over the past four years the number of people in Russia with high income increased 2 fold to 40%.
This rapid growth has been a “red flag” to advertisers and now advertising budgets are growing even faster than the number of internet users. According to the advertising agency MindShare Interaction, Internet advertising market in Russia grew by 87% and amounted to $187 million. It is expected that in 2007, advertising spend on the web will top $300m or $10 per Runet user.
