Yandex opened a new office in St. Petersburg today, expanding out of their Moscow base. Andrey Ivanov, who previously led the Russian branch of the Borland company, will be head of the operation.
In the first months the tasks of the St. Petersburg subdivision will be exclusively in development but in the future Yandex will be moving marketing and commercial functions there.
As reported by the Moscow Times early this year, Google were also looking into the possibility of moving into the new IT park based in the city. They have since set up a smaller R&D centre in Moscow.
