Yahoo! China will provide free websites for small and medium enterprises (SME’s) in a move to jumpstart e-commerce in China. It will also increase Yahoo! China’s base of businesses for advertising opportunities. With more than 23 million SMEs in China, Yahoo! is expecting to recruit nearly 200,000 of them. That will translate into a larger market not only for additional advertising revenue but also an enormous number of businesses that could utilize Alibaba’s B2B services that help find overseas buyers. Alibaba.com has more than 100,000 businesses (mostly SME’s) in China who pay between US$250-US$10,000 per year for Alibaba.com’s online marketing services.
