According to a recent survey by the Italian IT police section 79 % of Italian children are online surfing the web – 77% are navigating in complete solitude – without a chaperon
The survey was conducted interviewing 50.000 minors throughout Italy. The results showed that 11% encountered individuals with “bad intentions” – of these 75% said nothing to their parents.

I have to agree with your comments on parents not taking an active role in education, but for many parents they do not know about computers, never mind installing net filters! I think schools need to up the approach on this if they want to ensure that their children’s, children are prepared and educated without the need for subjects like this to be taught in schools as I think it is a relatively basic subject.
I understand what you are saying and I completely agree with you – when I was a child my parents warned of the dangers out there in the world and I (like many other children of my age) kept my eyes and ears open. Nowadays it seems like people have lost touch with reality, and educating their own children is something others should do for them … completely wrong
The survey is a little sensationalist. Children know what is right and what is wrong. Children should not need to be chaperoned on the internet, they need educating.
