The International Search Summit Barcelona is taking place on 8 May 2018. Covering a wide range of international search marketing topics and challenges, the conference is highly recommended for marketers and SEOs managing international websites and running global campaigns.
We’ve asked one of our speakers – Jeff Ferguson from Fang Digital Marketing – what attendees will gain from his talk and why people should attend the International Search Summit. Here’s what he had to say!
Why is the introduction of a mobile-first index so important? What does it change?
Like so many times in search history, Google is pushing the industry forward to a place it really should have been for years. With over 70% of all searches taking place on a mobile device, Google knows that this is not just the future of search, but where search is now. This change won’t mean that Google’s index will be “mobile only,” but it will mean that sites that the mobile view of a site will be what is indexed if it’s available.
What are the fundamentals to have in place to maximize the potential of mobile-first? How does it fit into an overall SEO strategy?
We will get into the details during my presentation, but some of the broad strokes have to do with site speed, site architecture compatibility to the mobile format, content, and more. Plus, I’ll get into some other great tips for existing in a mobile world.
Are there any pitfalls or misconceptions to be aware of?
The only pitfall is not taking action before these changes to the index are fully rolled out, which will happen this summer.
For large global sites, and those targeting multiple markets, are there any additional factors to take into account?
If you’re targeting multiple markets, you should be aware that the changes might affect different versions of your site at different times as the changes slowly roll out around the world.
What will ISS attendees learn from your talk?
My presentation will cover the definition of the mobile-first index, what is driving the change, and how to prepare for the coming changes in your content, site architecture, and inbound links.
And why should people attend the International Search Summit?
Some of the greatest minds in one of the most beautiful cities in the world? Why would you not?
