Google v Attorney General – Brazil

Google is facing lots of problems here because of Orkut, its social network which is a huge success here.

The Attorney General’s office, backed by a NGO, is making our friends from Mountain View sweat. Basically: Google must disclose information about Orkut users involved in child pornography. Google agreed to collaborate, but the local office has no powers to do it, since all Orkut’s servers and administration are in the US. Brazil is just a commercial office.

A hearing with Google representatives was postponed for next week. I’ll keep you posted.
