India the biggest internet market to come – says Google?

None other than Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has been reported by Silicon India as saying that India will be the internet’s biggest market in 5 – 10 years. He also believes that Hindi, not Hispanic, could become one of the world’s three Internet languages, in conjunction with English and Chinese. Now there’s a thought…..

    I also believe Google has this correct. Do you happen to know the market share for search engines in India? Is Google the leader? Are there any others that will pose significant competition to them?

    I belive that Google is right, they are a sleeping giant I have offen wondered why they hae not been bigger.

    With just over 50 million users and only a 4.5% penetration rate India has a long way to go but who can argue with Eric Schmidt. Maybe that’s why he is giving it a 5-10 year range. China has more that double the number of users at 111 million but could be passed in that time frame. Either way the number of Internet users in China and India will dwarf the number of users in the US very soon.
