The International Search Summit is returning to Barcelona as an in-person event on 18 November 2021!
Kyle Roof, the inventor of PageOptimizer Pro and Lead SEO at High Voltage SEO, will be one of the speakers.
He will be giving a talk on how to rank for more keywords using semantic terms and advanced interlinking.
We asked him some quick-fire questions to get to know him better and to whet our appetites for the event!
Describe yourself in three words.
Always be testing!
There are two types of people that will tell you how to do SEO. There are those who are testing things, running test websites, figuring out the algorithm, and then doing the SEO they are talking about on real websites. And then there are those who are just talking. I think that is a very important distinction.
What do you love about your job?
I love the problem solving. Every website you work on is different. Websites have different ages, niches, history and goals, so each project you work on requires problem solving that can adapt, so you can get from where the website is now to where the website needs to be – and I love that!
What is your talk about?
The title of my talk is “Rank for more keywords”. That is the goal, right? In my talk, I will show you how to create target pages that are semantically related, that will rank with more keywords, that will not require any fancy tools or any deep SEO knowledge. I will also show you how to build out supporting pages that will directly help your target page, whilst making your whole website stronger and less susceptible to new updates.
Why should people attend the International Search Summit?
I am excited for an in-person conference! This will be my first live conference since November 2019. The speaker line-up is great. The venue cannot be beaten. I love tapas and wine and if you love those things too, come out and look me up – I will be in the city for a week and, with a glass of wine in my hand, I will tell you everything you want to know about SEO!
If you could go back in time, where would you travel to?
I would go back to the 1640s to the 1670s and hang out with the people I love the most: Isaac Newton, Descartes, Edmond Halley. Their works inspire me now and I would love to hang with them, just for a minute, to see what they were really like.
Do you collect anything?
I collect cheesy refrigerator magnets from places that I have visited. The cheesier, the better! For example, I have the Leaning Tower of Pisa with a very handy bottle opener on it, the Old Town of Dubrovnik, and Bali. I have never been to Barcelona and I look forward to adding to my collection!
What is the weirdest misconception you have heard about SEO?
One of the weirdest ones is that “everything is black hat” – it is not! Usually, the people who say that have never read the guidelines, because there are guidelines and the guidelines would just say “everything is black hat” if that were the case, but they are not. There are actually things you can do. In my talk, I am going to show you the things that are within the guidelines and that are also effective, and those things will bring in more traffic.
